IFJ(국제기자연맹)는 12일 시사저널 사태와 관련 성명을 통해 시사저널 경영진의 편집권 침해를 우려하는 한편 시사저널 기자들과 한국기자협회 등 언론단체에 대한 지지를 표명했다.

IFJ는 이날 ‘시사저널 경영진의 편집권 침해를 우려한다’는 제목의 성명에서 시사저널 사태가 일어난 배경과 시사저널 경영진의 부당한 징계에 대해 설명하면서 언론에 있어 편집권 독립의 중요성을 강조했다.

IFJ는 “IFJ의 역사도 언론의 자유, 취재의 자유를 위한 투쟁이었다”며 “이는 편집권 독립을 위한 투쟁과 직결되는 부분”이라고 말했다.

IFJ는 또 “시사저널 사태에 대한 한국기자협회와 언론노조 등에 대한 지지”를 나타내는 한편 “양심적인 시사저널 기자들에 대한 확고한 믿음과 지지를 표명한다”고 말했다.

IFJ Worries Korean Media Group Sisa Journals trespass on Journalists Editorial Freedom.

For 7 months, within Sisa Journal one of the major news magazines in Korea, there has been conflict between their President Keum, Chang-Tae and some conscious journalists. The reason for the conflict is that an article about Samsung Co., one of the biggest conglomerates in Korea, was eliminated without agreement of the editor or the journalists who wrote that article. The article was about the influence of a certain individual in Samsung,

Let alone Mr. Keum's apology for what hed done, he terminated the editors resignation in one day, put three journalists into suspension from office for life and two journalists for three months. After all, 17 journalists were put under detention, and Mr, Keum is getting opposition from conscious journalists for his dictatorship.

Not only he ignored the voice of journalists editorial right but, to oppress legal and rightful strike, he published a fake Sisa Journal and even enforced lockout.

IFJ knows how important editorial freedom is, and so far IFJ contributed keeping press freedom and freedom to coverage. And IFJ sees this is challenge to gain editorial right.

IFJ confirms its support with its affiliate Journalists Association of Korea (JAK) and National Union of Media Workers (NUMW) to the conscious journalists in Sisa Journal for this situation.
