In follow-up to a letter sent by Aidan a number of days ago regarding the current lock-out of more than 5,000 unionists working for the CBC in Canada, we have now set the date of Sept. 12 (Monday) as a Day of Action around the world in support of CBC workers.
The places where we will have rallies/letters to Canadian embassy are:
Washington - Linda Foley and Debbie Thomas from TNG office are coordinating for D.C. event.
London - Jeremy Dear
Moscow - Dimitry Muraviev and Tim Shafir (Aidan will follow up on this Monday/Tuesday next week)
Jerusalem - Yaron Enosh and Arie Shaked
Brussels - Aidan White, Robert Shaw, Rachel Cohen and Hayet Zeghiche
Tokyo - Rep from Japanese Conference of Mass Media's Workers' Union - Nipporo
Seoul - Kang Seok-Jae
Berlin - Michael Khlem
Paris - Mario Gustoni and Olivier Da Lage
Sydney - Christopher Warren and Emma Walters
The idea is that each of you from each respective city should organise a meeting with the Canadian embassy on Sept. 12th and if possible suppliment this with pickets and protest against the CBC management in your city.
Aidan will send an official IFJ template letter for you to bring to the Canadian embassy. We are aiming to do special coordination and outreach between London and Washington.
Linda Foley, Aidan and I will met in New York next Wednesday to further concretize plans.
However, for the moment I would ask each of you to set up the above-mentioned actions for the 12th and if you need further details to contact Rachel Cohen at:
