속보 = 팔레스타인 가자지구에서 취재를 하다 무장단체에 의해 피랍된 KBS 용태영 특파원의 조속한 석방을 촉구하는 언론계의 발걸음이 빨라지고 있다.
한국기자협회(회장 정일용)는 15일 오후 ‘국제기자연맹(회장 크리스토퍼 워런?이하 IFJ)’과 프랑스언론단체 등과 공동으로 또는 IFJ 단독으로 KBS 용 기자의 조속한 석방과 신변보장을 촉구하는 성명서 채택을 위한 조율에 나섰다.
한국기자협회 국제교류분과위원회 문관현 위원장은 “IFJ와 프랑스언론단체 측에 기자협회 입장을 전달해 빠른 시간 내에 용 기자의 조속한 석방을 촉구하는 공동성명서를 채택할 예정”이라며 “시차문제로 다소 지연되고는 있지만 빠른 시간 내에 조율을 거쳐 국제언론단체와 이번 사태를 해결해나갈 예정”이라고 밝혔다.
이번 사태의 당사자인 KBS의 발걸음도 바빠지고 있다.
KBS는 이날 오전 5시에 비상대책위원회를 꾸린데 이어 오후 2시 30분 팔레스타인 무장 세력에 의해 팔레스타인 가자기구에 억류돼있는 용태영 KBS 중동특파원에 대한 취재와 대책 강구를 위해 보도본부 김덕원 기자와 박진경, 조정석 카메라 기자 등 3명의 특별대책반 1진을 이스라엘 델아브비로 파견했다.
나머지 특별대책반원들도 오후 11시 우즈베키스탄 항공편으로 합류시킬 예정이다.
또 미국 출장 중이던 KBS 정연주 사장이 남은 일정을 취소하고 피랍 현지로 이동해 대책반을 지휘한다는 계획이다.
KBS는 “KBS WORLD의 미국 현지법인인 KBS아메리카를 시찰하고 미국의 위성방송 사업자인 에코스타를 방문하기 위해 지난 8일 미국을 찾은 정연주 사장이 귀국예정일인 17일에 앞서 현지시각으로 15일 낮 12시 10분 비행기로 이스라엘 텔아비브로 떠나기로 했다”고 밝혔다.
KBS는 “정 사장은 피랍현지에서 대사관의 협조를 토대로 현지 KBS대책반을 지휘할 예정”이라고 덧붙였다.
이와 함께 용 기자의 무사귀환을 촉구하는 기자들의 성명서도 잇따라 발표되고 있다.
이날 오전 한국기자협회와 MBC기자회가 성명서를 발표한데 이어 KBS노조(위원장 진종철)도 ‘용태영 조합원의 무사귀환을 촉구한다’는 제목의 성명서를 발표하고 “조합원의 생사가 걸린 이번 문제에 대해 모든 노력을 기울일 것”을 약속하고 나섰다.
같은 시각 전국언론노동조합(위원장 신학림)도 ‘정부는 피랍된 용태영 기자 석방에 최선을 다하라’는 제목으로 성명서를 내고 “사건의 조속한 해결을 위해 현지 당국의 관련자들과 우리 정부가 비상한 각오로 적극 나서 줄 것”을 거듭 촉구했다.

Journalists Association of Korea Demands Immediate Release of TV Journalist Yong Tae-young
The Journalists Association of Korea (JAK) calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Korean journalist Yong Tae-young, a Dubai-based correspondent for the Korean Broadcasting System, who was kidnapped by an armed group in the Gaza Strip while he was in the line of official duty.
We are flabbergasted that Yong was taken hostage by gunmen at a hotel, a public place, after he traveled to the Gaza Strip to cover the Islamic group Hamas following its January 25 election victory to lead a new Palestinian government.
In particular, we, Korean journalists, are shocked and dismayed regardless of borders that Yong and a French journalist became the terrorist target of a militant group.
We cannot accept the fact that the reckless kidnapping was an act taken in revenge for Israeli forces' raid of a prison in the West Bank to seize the leader of a Palestinian militant group jailed over the killing of an Israeli minister.
Armed Palestinians should realize that there are no grounds for their illegal activities to serve political purposes, such as kidnapping foreign journalists who have nothing to do with their cause
We will stage a solidarity movement with journalists from various countries who love peace and truth, including French journalists, to secure Yong's early release.

S. Korea's journalist association demands release of KBS reporter

SEOUL, March 15 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's association of journalists demanded on Wednesday the "immediate" and "unconditional" release of a Korean TV journalist kidnapped by armed Palestinians.
"Regardless of borders, we, Korean journalists, are shocked and dismayed that Yong Tae-young and a French journalist became the terrorist target of a militant group," the Journalists Association of Korea said in a statement.
Yong, a 41-year-old correspondent based in Dubai for public broadcaster KBS, was taken hostage by armed Palestinians on Tuesday, after Israeli forces raided a prison in the West Bank to seize the leader of an militant group jailed over the killing of an Israeli minister.
Yong was staying at a hotel in the northern beach area of the Gaza Strip along with his cameraman when armed Palestinians raided the hotel and kidnapped several foreigners.
Cameraman Shin Sang-cheol, who was left unharmed by the terrorists, later informed the South Korean embassy in Israel of the incident. Later, Yong telephoned South Korean embassy officials and said he had not been harmed by the terrorists.
"Armed Palestinians should be made to realize the fact that there are no grounds for their illegal activities to serve political purposes, such as kidnapping foreign journalists who have nothing to do with their cause," the association said.
